Why Brave the Drop?
A cancer diagnosis is one of the greatest challenges we can be faced with in life. And embarking on your treatment journey can feel like taking a leap of faith.
If you consider a cancer experience as analogous to abseiling, then Mayo Cancer Support is that all -important harness that gives patients/survivors and their loved ones the support they need to get their feet back on the ground.
We are a registered charity and depend on fundraising to cover up to 90% of our annual operating costs (approx €230,000). We have exciting plans to expand our services, and so we need your support more than ever!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, but Mayo Cancer Support and the event facilitators can not be responsible for them. There is a viewing area where your friends and family can get close to where you will be doing the abseil. Children must be accompanied at all times.
-
No. Participants must leave phones and jewellery with family or friends before going up onto the roof. Access to the roof is strictly for participants only.
-
Fitness is not very important but agility/mobility is very important; reaching the start of the abseil requires descending 3 short ladders and climbing over a barrier. If a participant has mobility issues they need to speak to us in advance. Anyone who has had recent surgery, is/may be pregnant, has back pain or other medical/mobility issues or is over 65 must seek their GP’s advice before partaking in this event.
-
Bad weather rarely results in the cancellation of abseils at Croke Park. Lightning is the biggest problem. Rain and wind are not an obstacle as the abseil is sheltered. In the event of an occurrence of lightning on the day, on-site procedures will be enacted to stop and close down the abseil for a short period.
